General Information |
Previous treatment for heel pain that did not go away after trying
anti-inflammatory pills, stretching, physical therapy, arch supports/orthotics,
injections, splints, casting, would occasionally require endoscopic
cutting of the ligament that stretches from the base of the toes to
the bottom of the heel. This was done with a tiny incision that allows
a camera to view, under the skin, a partial cutting of the ligament
that is not healing). While the successful alleviation of the heel
pain with all of these different modalities is well documented, we
always try to avoid invasive procedures. In fact, very few patients
actually require surgery.

HOWEVER, we have been using the Dornier EPOS high-energy shockwave
machine for over one year to treat non-resolving heel pain. Literature
has shown a cure rate between 84-88% after 3-6 months. Our patients
are reporting the same success rate. This is a fabulous non-invasive
way to treat heel pain that does not require cutting, time out of
work, casting, crutches, etc. We use ultrasonic guidance to find the
greatest area of inflammation and allow the high-energy ultrasound
to create a controlled damage to the ligament that should finally
allow it to heal. Come see if you may be a candidate for this procedure.
